How the COVID Pandemic Affected Poisonings and Overdoses in the United States

presented by

Jerry Leikin

The COVID pandemic changed virtually every aspect of daily life while stressing our medical care system to its limits. One collateral effect of the COVID pandemic is the exacerbation of the opioid epidemic along with misuse of drugs that were not approved to treat or prevent COVID infections. Additionally, use of recreational drugs increased while mental health issues resulted in an increase in drug overdoses that further stressed our healthcare system. This talk will explore these collateral effects of the COVID pandemic from a Medical Toxicology perspective.
