The MCA Birding Group

Led by MCA member Alan Gordon, MCA Birding will involve field trips to local parks including Sugden Regional Park, Eagle Lakes Community Park and Freedom Park in Collier County and Lakes Park in Lee County. The April 11 birding will take place at J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island, considered by many to be the best birding site in southwest Florida. Carpooling will be available for the trips to Lakes Park and to Ding Darling.

This birding group is open to all MCA members who are interested in bird watching or nature photography or who just want to go to interesting natural habitats for an outdoor stroll. Birding sites are chosen for convenience and for number of bird species available for viewing and hearing. With the exception of the trip to Ding Darling, expect easy 1 1/2 hour walks of approximately one mile. In the case of Ding Darling, we will travel through the Refuge by car, stopping to get out at various observation points.

Binoculars are necessary to see many of the birds, so you should be sure to bring a decent pair with you.
