    My 59 Years in Broadcasting

    MCA Member Steven Guggenheim

Steve spent over half a century in broadcast news, mostly on the network level.  He has been an anchor, reporter, editor, director, talk show host and manager. Half of his career was in front of the mic, the other half behind it.  Steve dealt with a whole range of stories.  He produced all of the network’s Watergate coverage.  Covered Capitol Hill, the White House, State Department and Pentagon.  For more than 20 years his focus was on business news when he worked for the Wall Street Journal Radio Network.  After Watergate the biggest story he covered was 9/11. Steve was at Ground Zero when the attacks occurred.  His wife always said when there was a big story Steve would be in the middle of it.

Steve majored in broadcasting at Emerson College in Boston. His first job after college was as a Desk Assistant for WCBS newsradio in New York.  From there he took an on air job with WINA in Charlottesville, Va. Then Back to New York where he was a reporter and producer for WHN. Then on to Mutual Broadcasting in DC for 8 yrs. Back to NY and NJ where he spent 22 years with the Wall Street Journal Radio Network. Then 11 years with Fox Radio as senior editor and anchor.

    Jews in Basketball

    (and Hebrews in Hockey, Too)

Jewish players, coaches, owners, and broadcasters have played a major role in shaping the sport at college and professional levels from  its inception to the current day. Nearing the height of March Madness and with the NBA play-offs looming, MCA member Marshall Tanick will make a PowerPoint presentation on that topic, covering men and  women participants, including here in Florida, and will throw in a bit of  hockey lore, too, as a sequel to his popular  “Jews in Baseball” presentation last year.

Did you know that:   The first basket in a professional basketball game was made  by a Jew?

The winning goal in the 2026 men’s Olympic Hockey championship game was scored by a Jew?

Attend this program and you will find out a lot more about “Jews in Basketball  and Hockey, too.

    Marshall Tanick

Marshall, a Minnesota native who joined MCA in early 2024, spoke to us last season about Jews in Baseball. He's an attorney who, for 45 years, has represented clients in matters ranging from employment law, constitutional law, education law; animal law, and land law to business disputes. He has taught at the University of Minnesota Law School, among others, and is a frequent Continuing Education lecturer.
